Great Ideas

Fellow writers picture this.  I'm laying in bed reading with delight Catherine Palmer's The Courteous Cad. Hubby's by my side engrossed in a Ted Decker trilogy.  My cat is comfortable in her little niche on my other side. New kitty is snuggled under the covers on top of me. Both are purring in purrrfect harmony. You can't get any cozier than this. All of a sudden I get a great revelation about one of my stories and I must write it down, lest the moment pass me by. Notebook and pen are beside me on the floor, but I'm trapped in my bed.  No one in this room was going to budge.  I needed my notebook! I called out to the other room for my son to come to the rescue. "Could you do me a big favor? I need my notebook and pen on the floor right there. I can't reach it." As he handed them to me he shakes his head and chuckles. After two pages of jotting down my notes I returned to my novel. Life is good.

Where are you when you get some of your great ideas?

  1. Usually in bed trying to fall asleep. That's where I just got my ending!

  2. I'm almost always in the shower where it's relaxing (I've learned to lock the door). Thank God for Crayola bathtub crayons!

  3. Those story ideas do come at the most inconvenient times. Think you better tuck the pen and notebook under your pillow. :)

  4. Hi Carla -

    Love Catherine Palmer's books!

When I'm stuck, the answers usually come either while I'm sleeping or journaling.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  5. No doubt this touches a chord with every one of us.

For me, attacks of creativity or inspiration often hit like a brick falling from a 40 story building while I'm out walking (usually before 7am); or as I'm pondering some new view of a scripture I've read repeatedly.

The mental image of your purring kitties made me smile.

    Blessings,
    Kathleen

  7. it seems the good ideas always hits me when I'm at work or while I'm driving. If I can stop and write it down while I'm thinking of it I do, or else it's gone. :)

  12. That's funny! At least someone was able to save you without having to move! I often get ideas while laying in bed before falling asleep. I'll whip out my pen and notebook and write it down in the dark--not knowing how far apart to space my lines because I can't see what I'm doing. Many-a-times I've had to interpret a page that is blank on the top half and written on top of itself on the bottom half.

  13. Wow Carla, such a cozy scene. love it!!

I take public transportation everyday and so most of the time ideas will come to me while I am standing on the train trying my best to hold on to the rails or on the bus while I am sandwiched between a few people. I always carry a few small notepads and lots of pens so I can jot down ideas for maybe a poem or a devotional.

    Blessings,
    vickie
