Today we welcome Ken Raney, husband of author Deborah Raney.

www.deborahraney.com. Welcome Ken! Where did you meet Deb and how long have you been married? My brother was dating Deb’s best friend in high school and they set us up on a double date with them. We ended up beating them to the altar and have been married for 38 years now. Who lives at home with you (children, pets, other)?
We’ve been empty-nesters for almost four years now, but we raised four kids and now have four grandkids. We have a cat named Sundae, the latest in a long line of Raney cats. Did you know Deborah was a writer before you were married?
She’s always done some writing, but we’d been married almost twenty years before she started working on her first novel. What is your occupation and how long have you been working at that vocation? I started my own business four years ago after being laid off from my job as an advertising manager for a company I’d been with for 25 years. Now I run Clash Creative, a graphic design firm that does a lot of book cover design and other graphics for authors. I also run Clash Entertainment, an entertainment website for Christian teenagers. What are a few of your favorite books and authors? (Not including your wife's.)
I’m fascinated with true stories of World War II, and Unbroken is a recent favorite. I also like reading biographies, creation science, and apologetics. Edgar Rice Burroughs (of Tarzan fame) is my favorite author. Have you ever read any of your wife's books? If so, do you have a favorite?
I’ve read them all. I think my favorite is probably Remember to Forget. Where does Deborah write?
All over the house. At the kitchen counter, on the sofa, in her office, out on the deck in the summer, and sometimes if I’m bugging her too much (since we both work from home) she goes to a coffee shop to write.
What does she wear when writing?
My shirts. Her writing “uniform” is baggy men’s shirts. And bare feet. She never wears shoes in the house. Is there anything unusual that she ever asks you to do relating to her writing?
I’m her go-to graphic designer, but also, she rearranges her office (and the whole house for that matter) every other week, so she’s always asking me to help her move furniture. What activities do the two of you enjoy doing together as a couple?
We work out together every weekday morning, watch a movie together almost every night, and we like working in our yard and gardens in the summer. Recently we’ve been traveling a lot to teach at writers conferences and to visit our kids.

Does your husband write? If so, please tells us about it.
Ken is one of the most creative people I know. He sees himself as more of an illustrator than a writer, but he’s had two children’s picture books published, and has written a trilogy for middle grade kids. He also does a lot of writing for the articles he posts on the Clash Entertainment website.
As an author, what is something exceptional that you appreciate about your husband relating to his support of your career.
Ken could not possibly be more supportive of me and my writing. Besides reading every one of my books and always being available to brainstorm ideas with me or give business advice, he’s also super sweet about helping out with housecleaning, making his own dinner if I’m on deadline, and rarely griping about it. More importantly, no one can make me laugh like he does. He’s always helped me to not take myself too seriously and to lighten up when things are stressful. Thank you for visiting, Ken and Deb!
