Re-release of The Homestead Brides Collection

What does it means when a book re-releases or is repackaged?

The Homestead Brides Collection from Barbour Publishing re-released this month. Its exciting for authors when a book is reissued because it means that it did well upon its original run. It also gives new readers, who may have missed hearing about it the first time a chance to purchase the book. When The Homestead Brides Collection was published in 2015 it became an EPCA bestseller ranking #5 in March and #11 in April which is quite an honor. This new edition, which is a regular size novel compared to the former over-sized edition, is already gaining popularity. Three of my other books have also enjoyed a second run including my novel The Shadow Catcher's Daughter in Love's Compass, novella 'Tis the Season of Mistletoe Memories in Bygone Christmas Brides, and novella Carving a Future of Colonial Courtships in The American Dream Romance Collection. Its fun to see my books get revived especially because so much effort goes into researching and writing them, regardless if its a novel or a novella.

I'm excited to be included in this collection of nine novellas all about homesteading on the Great Plains. My novella is all about "Proving Up" on homesteads in Swedeberg, Nebraska, a small, but thriving, Swedish community.

Elsa Lindquist applies her scientific theories to growing trees on the Nebraska plains, intruding on a handsome homesteader’s hard work and experience. Will their dreams come to ruin, or will love prove their success?

The Timber Culture Act of 1873 is central to my story and by now I have learned more about growing trees on the Nebraska plains than any person should know. A hazard of research, for sure, but it made interesting fodder for my plot. A headstrong gal can get into a lot of trouble when she decides to grow trees in the middle of a prairie.

Our culture tends to romanticize things of the past. But it took a lot of grit to homestead. To comply with the regulations of the homestead claim a claimant had to provide proof that they have met the standards by working and living on the land within a set period of time. The process was called "proving up", thus the name of my novella. The reward was 160 acres of land after five years of homesteading. Another 160 acres could be added to this by cultivating trees for several more years.

While I'm writing, I collect resources, sources, and photographs that I use for inspiration. I keep them on my Pinterest story board and make it public to share with my readers. You can see my story board for Proving Up HERE.

My contribution to The Homestead Brides Collection themed gift basket is a diecast windmill pencil sharpener. This windmill represents the windmills used to provide energy on the homesteads, like one featured in my story.

I'm excited to announce today's release of The Homestead Brides Collection from Barbour Publishing which features my novella, "Proving Up"!

Beginning the year with a new book!

New Year's greetings to you all! I'm gearing up for the February 1st release of my novella, Proving Up, in The Homestead Brides Collection from Barbour Publishing. I have quite a few blog appearances coming up to help promote the book, including a special blog tour with the nine contributing authors of the collection. So I hope you will join me around the web where I'll share lots of tidbits about my novella and the research that brought the story to life.

When I received my author copies the other day it was the first delivery of books to the new home we moved into over the holidays. This novella collection is a beautiful, over-sized paperback book with flaps and a deckled edge.
