A Visit with the Huz: the inside scoop on Kelly Long

Today we welcome Scott Long, husband of author Kelly Long.

Kelly Long is the author of A Marriage of the Heart and An Amish Kitchen.  You may visit her at FB FANS OF KELLY LONG.

Welcome Scott!

Where did you meet Kelly and how long have you been married?

Twenty Seven years in January…met as children and grew up together. Homecoming Queen and Captain of the football team—a long time ago…for the football I mean.

Who lives at home with you (children, pets, other)?

Grant age 14, Gracie age 11, and Sophie…our cavachon (King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Mix)—Kelly secretly LOVES her.

Did you know Kelly was a writer before you were married?

I knew in school as she wrote for the school paper, yearbook and local newspaper. She’s the smartest most creative person I know and always has been.

What is your occupation and how long have you been working at that vocation?

I am Supervisor of Power Supply for Allegheny Electric Cooperative in Harrisburg, Penn. I’ve been doing this FOREVER…

What are a few of your favorite books and authors? (Not including your wife's.)

Catch 22; Gone with the Wind (Scarlet is a strongly drawn character); The World According to Garp; My daughter’s novel in process…Eyelet.

Have you ever read any of your wife's books?  If so, do you have a favorite?

My favorite is her first…Hart’s Truth. It’s an e-book about a young doctor in the 1920’s. It’s also about the small town where we met and grew up together.

Where does Kelly write?

In our bed….it’s true!

What does she wear when writing?

I could be very interesting here but I’ll just say whatever she’s wearing at the time.

Is there anything unusual that she ever asks you to do relating to her writing?

Let her alone and spell things.

What activities do the two of you enjoy doing together as a couple?

Escaping the children, hiking, swimming, bicycling…

Now, from Kelly:

Does your husband write? If so, please tells us about it.

Scott is a magnificent poet. He once wrote me a love poem entitled “The Sea Lives Mostly in Her Hair.”

As an author, what is something exceptional that you appreciate about your husband relating to his support of your career.
He reads all of my work faithfully. I love him for that.

Thank you for visiting, Scott and Kelly!

  1. Great interview. I just have one question, what does the Supervisor of Power Supply for Allegheny Electric Cooperative do? That is quite a title, Mr. Long. :) I love the cover of Hart's Truth.

  2. Sigh. Just the title of the poem that Scott wrote (The Sea LIves Mostly In Her Hair) sounds so romantic. God bless you both, Kelly & Scott, and Carla, too :)

  4. I love the hubby interviews!!! I wonder if mine would do that for me...he's dyslexic so I'd have to type it up for him but would he feel comfortable to tell the truth while I have control of the backspace key????? :)
