Monthly Writing Prompt & Bonus Giveaway!

I'm excited to let you know that I will be featuring a monthly writing prompt and giveaway here at Writing to Distraction!

On the first Monday of each month, through November 2010, I will post a writing prompt for you to write in any genre up to 1,000 words.

Share your entry on your blog along with the badge (grab image from left or code below).  If you don't have a blog simply post your entry in the comments section of that month's writing prompt.  You may post at any time up until the last day of the month (30th or 31st).  The new prompt will be posted again on the first Monday of that month.

This is entirely for fun, to encourage your creativity, and present a chance to sample each others writing.  Every one who participates will be eligible to win the monthly giveaway (prizes shipped within US only, but anyone can enter).  The participants will not be judged for the monthly giveaway; the winner will be selected by random drawing (ie. my husband pulls a name out of a basket). You can only win the giveaway once during a 6 month period, but don't let that hinder you from participating as a grand prize will be awarded at the end of the year for the favorite entry of the year.

Now let me tell you about some of the prizes!  I'll be giving away a decorative gift box filled with writing and book lover goodies, some which have been donated to Writing to Distraction! Here are a couple of the great items that will be included.

The Bag Ladies have a wonderful product that appeals to books lovers and tea connoisseurs alike.

Novel Teas contains 25 teabags individually tagged with literary quotes from the world over, made with the finest English Breakfast tea.

Spend teatime with CS Lewis, Rita Mae Brown, Alice Hoffman, and more as they share their thoughts on the delights and comforts of tea and books on each individually printed tea tag.

There is no better company than a steaming cup of tea as you open the cover of a favorite classic or turn the page of the latest thriller. Whether traveling to distant times and far off lands or discovering new characters in a nearby locale, a soothing cup of tea makes the journey more pleasurable and the memory lasting.

Novel Teas are the perfect compliment to your literary journey. Enjoy them iced by the pool for that great summer romance, or hot by the hearth for that long winter epic.

Novel Teas and reading go hand in hand.  I just love this item. The gift box will include a Novel Teas pouch that includes 5 delicious tea bags. Drinking this Novel Tea is the perfet companion for me while I write!

TheBookMate is a new reading companion for book lovers that is practical and easy to use. Made of durable transparent plastic, TheBookMate includes a Pen/Highlighter. It's the world's most unique and novel bookmark. You'll never have to lose your place or pen again!

TheBookMate is ideal for professors, teachers, students and all those who love to journal, read and highlight or take notes while they read. TheBookMate is available in six brilliant, transparent colors. Select from: Candy Apple Red, Caribbean Blue, Florida Orange, Royal Purple, Emerald Green and Bronze Tinted Smoke. To see how it works click on this product demonstration page.

As a writer, I can just imagine using TheBookMate this while I'm researching a novel, jotting down notes in a novel I'm reading, or studying my Bible. This is a super tool, very sturdy and holds a full size pen and I love it!

The giveaway gift box will also include a variety of other items which may include a writers' journal, paper products, writing utensils, etc.  Here are some other goodies you'll find:

Victorian Stickers of people writing and reading.  I love these stickers! Use them for correspondance, crafting, or scrapbooking.

Whimsical blank cards for writers and book lovers, created by me! I'll include 4 cards with envelopes.  This one features a Louisa May Alcott quote that says, " I want to do something splendid . . . Something heroic or wonderful that won't be forgotten after I'm dead . . .  I think I shall write a book."

The gift box will include several more items as well!

Remember you will have the whole month to participate. I'll be using Mr. Linky for you to add your entry at any time during the month.

The schedule will be as follows:
Jan. 4 (Jan & Feb. combined), March 1, April 5, May 3, June 7, July 5, Aug. 2, Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 1.  Grand prize will be awarded by Dec. 31st.

Please spread the word and feel free to take the image that links back to the writing prompt & giveaway.

  6. Well, Kav, it will be a good exercise for you then! LOL! Actually 1,000 words more or less. The guidelines are very flexible. I find it more difficult to write less words than more myself. It will be good practice.
